Seeking Approval of God
Scripture: “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” – Galatians 1:10 (ESV)
Devotion:
In our daily lives, we often find ourselves striving for acceptance and approval. Whether it’s in our workplaces, social circles, or even within our families, the desire to be liked and acknowledged can influence our actions and decisions. However, Galatians 1:10 challenges us to reflect on the true source of our motivation: are we seeking the approval of man, or of God?
The Apostle Paul faced many challenges and criticisms in his ministry. Yet, he boldly declared that his mission was not to please people but to serve Christ. Paul’s unwavering commitment to the Gospel and his focus on God’s approval serve as a powerful reminder for us today.
Reflection:
- Evaluate Your Motivation: Take a moment to assess the driving forces behind your actions. Are you seeking validation from others, or are you motivated by a desire to honor God? Reflect on areas where you may have compromised your values to gain acceptance.
- Commit to Servanthood: Being a servant of Christ means prioritizing His will above all else. It involves making decisions that align with His teachings, even when they may not be popular or well-received by others. Ask God to help you develop a heart of servanthood, focused on His glory rather than human approval.
- Embrace God’s Approval: Remember that God’s approval is eternal and unchanging. Unlike human opinions, which can be fickle and inconsistent, God’s love and acceptance are steadfast. Find comfort and strength in knowing that you are valued and loved by your Creator.
Prayer:
Lord, I’m here before You, seeking Your guidance and approval. By Your grace, grant me the strength to stay true to my faith, even when it’s difficult. Help me to live in a way that honors You in everything I do. Let Your unwavering love be my guide and fill my heart with the faith to trust in Your Son. Teach me to seek Your approval above all else and not be swayed by the shifting tides of human opinion or the desire for earthly validation. Remind me that it is by Your strength alone that I can stand firm. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Action Step:
This week, identify one area where you have been seeking human approval over God’s. Make a conscious effort to shift your focus, seeking to please God in your actions and decisions. Share your experience with a friend or prayer partner to encourage and hold each other accountable.
