Holy Week Devotion – Wednesday Morning (April 16, 2025, 5:00 AM)
Scripture:
“Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?’ And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.”
— Matthew 26:14–16 (ESV)
Reflection:
Wednesday of Holy Week is often called Spy Wednesday, marking the moment Judas chose betrayal over discipleship. The tragedy is not only in what Judas did—but in why. He traded the Savior for silver. He exchanged eternal truth for temporary gain. And he walked away from light into darkness.
This sobering moment calls us to honest reflection. What in our lives tempts us to trade Christ for lesser loves? What temporary comforts or hidden sins whisper promises louder than His voice? Holy Week reminds us that Jesus willingly faced betrayal to bring us back from ours. His love does not recoil from the unfaithful—it redeems.
Let today be a day of repentance and return. Christ sees every motive, yet still offers mercy. Don’t walk away. Walk closer.
Prayer:
Lord, guard my heart from compromise. Forgive the moments I’ve chosen comfort over obedience or applause over truth. Thank You for pursuing me even when I fail. Teach me to treasure You above everything else. Amen.
Greek Word:
παραδίδωμι (paradidōmi) — to deliver over, to betray
Used in the Gospels to describe Judas’ act of betrayal, but also used of Christ giving Himself over in obedience to the Father’s will.
Hebrew Word:
בָּגַד (bagad) — to act treacherously, to betray
Often used in prophetic literature to describe covenant unfaithfulness—yet always within the context of God’s call to return and be restored.
